Five Hotels to Check Out in Port-au-Prince

For most people who travel to Haiti, the first stop is in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti. Sometimes, this just be for a night until you leave for your final destination the next morning. Other times, it is work that keeps you in this amazing city. Whichever the case might be, you will want to have a great experience at your hotel.

Here are five hotels to check out for your next visit to Port-au-Prince. Each of these hotels have had good reports from recent visitors.

Marriott Port-au-Prince Hotel

This is the newest of the large hotels in Port-au-Prince. From the reports I have heard, it is a great property with comfortable public areas, clean rooms and a staff that has been trained to provide the services you would expect from a Marriott.  Nightly rates generally begin around US$180 with some rooms going for US$380 per night.  http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/papmc-marriott-port-au-prince-hotel/

Best Western Premier Petion-Ville

The Best Western has been in Haiti for a number of years and has been consistently good in service and presentation. Friends of mine who have been in Haiti for several years have always told me that this is the place to stay if in Port-au-Prince. It is located up the hill in Petion-Ville with restaurants, clubs and shopping close by. It is also a little higher in the city so the evenings and nights are a little cooler.  Rates start at about US$150 with some rooms listed at US$360 per night.  http://www.bestwesternpremierhaiti.com/

Karib Hotel

This is one that I have heard good things about. It is clean and designed in the Caribbean style with open public spaces, lots of tile and airy. When you stay at the Karib Hotel, you will know that you are visiting a Caribbean Island and you should be enjoying the beaches and the good weather. Rates for this property begin at US$150 per night and like the others range to about US$350 for other rooms.  http://www.karibehotel.com/

Visa Lodge

This is perhaps the closest to the Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Port-au-Prince.  Visa Lodge is also the smallest hotel listed here. It is clean. There is room for small conferences and meetings. Onsite restaurant and swimming pool all in a secure property. Rates begin at US$115 per night and range to about US$175 per night. http://www.visalodge.com/

NH El Rancho

The El Rancho has been a staple in Petion-Ville, Haiti for years. However, during the past several years, the El Rancho went through a major renovation and has become the NH El Rancho which is part of the NH Hotel Group. With 72 rooms, it is not large, but it is upscale and located in the midst of everything business and government. The properties are wonderful and lush and provides serenity while you are at the hotel.  Rates range from US$176 to US$450 per night.  http://www.nh-hotels.com/hotel/nh-haiti-el-rancho
